So a lot has happened in my life, have a few added blessings in my life . But that is a story for another day. Today i wanna focus on the fast approaching summer season. And with it comes ice cold fresh beverages. One of my favourite and easy to make, is lemonade, because the lemons are in full season and accessible, plus got a tree outside in the yard. So why not add to the list of lemon uses and add some fresh homemade lemonade juice.

Thanks to my sister who needed a refreshing drink for this summer , i thought to share it also. Our recipe starts with a simple syrup which can be made ahead of time and stored in the fridge.

Homemade Lemonade Recipe

Ingredients

8 cups water, divided

1 cup sugar

zest of 2 lemons

1 1/2 cups of lemon juice(about 8 lemons)

2 cups ice cubes

Method

  1. Pour 3 cups of water and 1 cup of sugar into a saucepan. Bring to the boil for 5minutes.
  2. Remove pan from heat and add lemon zest into the sugar water .
  3. Let sit for 5minutes or cooled to room temperature. Or you can put the pan in the fridge to cool faster.
  4. in a large jug, add the lemon juice and remaining 5 cups of water. pour cooled sugar water over a strainer into the jug. The strainer will catch the lemon zest. Discard the lemon zest.
  5. Add ice and refrigerate for at least 30minutes before serving .
  6. Pour in individual glasses with ice and serve with a lemon slice. Enjoy !
